Pickleball Round Robin Generator (4–16 Players, Byes)
- By Julien Levadoux
Pick how many players and courts you have. The generator rotates partners so nobody plays with the same partner twice, spreads opponents, and shares out the sit-outs evenly. Print it, or copy the link to send the same schedule to the group.
How the schedule is made
Every round, the generator:
- Picks who sits out, if there are more players than spots on court. Whoever has sat out least goes first, and nobody sits out two rounds in a row when that can be avoided.
- Pairs the partners, pairing each player with someone they haven’t partnered yet.
- Matches the pairs so the same players face each other as rarely as possible.
With the suggested number of rounds, everyone partners as many different people as the numbers allow and sits out the same number of times. The suggested number is one less than the number of players, rounded up when there are sit-outs so they come out even. With 8 players on 2 courts, that’s 7 rounds, and each player partners all 7 others once.
How long it takes
A game to 11 takes about 15 to 20 minutes in rec play. Seven rounds is about two hours. For a shorter session, pick fewer rounds: the first rounds are still balanced, just with fewer partners each.
Sitting out
Pickleball needs four players a court. With 9 players on 2 courts, 1 player sits out each round. With 6 players on 1 court, 2 sit out. The schedule shares the sit-outs out evenly, and the round count is set so everyone sits out the same number of times. If you have more courts than you need, the extra courts are left free.
Names and sharing
Add names if you like; otherwise players go by number. The players, courts, rounds and names are kept in the page’s address, so Copy link sends the exact same schedule to everyone. Nothing is sent to us or stored anywhere. Want it on paper? The round robin sheets have a ready-made schedule for every group size from 4 to 16.
Scoring each game
Most open play uses games to 11, win by 2, with traditional side-out scoring. If the score calling trips people up, the score tracker calls it for you, rally by rally.
